Privacy Policy

Your photos never leave your device. What Face Shape Scanner does and doesn't collect, our Biometric Data Notice, and your choices.

This policy explains what Face Shape Scanner ("we", "us") collects when you use faceshapescanner.com, why, and the choices you have. Face Shape Scanner is run by an independent developer. Questions: support@faceshapescanner.com.

The short version

  • Your photos are never uploaded. The face shape detector and glasses try-on run entirely in your web browser. Your photo, and anything measured from it, never reaches our servers.
  • We don't store your face. Nothing is saved; closing or refreshing the page discards the photo and every measurement.
  • No account, no sign-up. We don't ask for your name or email to use the tool.
  • We use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics, and — where you allow it — advertising from Google.

How the face shape detector works

When you choose a photo or take one with your camera, your browser downloads Google's open-source MediaPipe models from our site once and runs them locally on your device. The models find facial landmarks and the outline of your face in that photo, and our code compares a few proportions (face length, and forehead, cheekbone and jaw width) to decide which of seven face shapes is the closest match. The glasses try-on places a frame image over your photo using the position of your eyes.

All of this happens in memory on your device. We cannot see, receive or recover your photo or its measurements. If you use the camera, the video stream stays in your browser and the camera is switched off after you take the picture.

Biometric Data Notice

Some laws treat a scan of face geometry as biometric data or a biometric identifier — for example the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act, Washington's biometric identifier law and My Health My Data Act, and the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which treats biometric data used to identify a person as a special category of personal data.

We want to be clear about what we do:

  • We do not collect, capture, receive, store, sell, lease, trade, share or otherwise profit from biometric data or biometric identifiers. The facial landmarks and measurements used by the detector are computed on your own device and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
  • We do not use your face to identify you. The tool only estimates a general face shape category for style suggestions. It does not recognise who you are and does not compare your face with anyone else's.
  • Nothing is retained. Measurements exist only in your browser's memory while the page is open and are discarded when you close or reload it, so there is nothing for us to keep, disclose or destroy.

If you are not comfortable with on-device face analysis, don't use the detector — the rest of the site works without it.

What we do collect

Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are popular. It does not use cookies, does not track you across sites and does not build a profile of you. It records aggregated information such as the page visited, the referring site, your country and your browser type.

Server and security logs. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and request details to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to identify you.

Advertising. We may show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners can use cookies or similar technologies to show ads and measure them, including ads based on your interests. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time through Cookie settings in the site footer. You can learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.

Shopping links. Some pages link to eyeglasses retailers. These are affiliate links: if you buy something after clicking, the retailer may pay us a commission. When you click, you go to the retailer's site, which may set its own cookies to track the referral; their privacy policies apply there. We don't receive your name, address or payment details.

Email. If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply. We delete support emails when they are no longer needed.

Your choices and rights

  • Use the detector or not — it is optional.
  • Change your cookie and advertising choices at any time with Cookie settings in the footer.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or US state privacy laws such as the CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of personal data we hold about you, and to complain to a data protection authority. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests will concern support emails. Contact support@faceshapescanner.com.

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, except that, where you allow advertising cookies, Google may use them as described above.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Please do not use photos of anyone under 18 — see our Terms of Service.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
